New Business

  • Debrief on State Park clean up
  • Lake Host Grant awarded for $2650 to KLA plus $2500 from KCC budget.

Betty Wright.  Need to reach out to Rich St. Hilaire to remind him about weekly emptying of port a potty.  We have Carry In Carry Out signs. Betty mentioned that the Porta Potty has been placed. The person who delivered it said it would be cleaned every week

  • Aquifer Protection signage- view sample and costs. Evy Nathan brought pictures of the proposed Aquifer Protection signs, as well as a map of the Kingston Aquifer.  Voss signs cost is $619.20 for ten signs (24×36 metal). Jim Edwards asked “Why are we doing this now?” Muriel said it is to education the people where the aquifer is and also due to the possible construction of a truck stop on rte. 125. Evy suggested a few places to place the signs: Rte 111 at 125, Ball Road by Great Pond, the boat ramp, bridge near Tucker French Trails on Marshall Road, etc.. We discussed that Exeter River has signs posted. It was asked why just Kingston, why not get the other towns involved (Fremont, Brentwood, Plaistow, Newton), also Rockingham County and the State. We may get more support from the State, we are not alone in this. Muriel and Evy (others too) feel we are responsible for Kingston and Kingston Lake. The KLA would split the cost of the signs with the Conservation Commission. Maybe we could get the Country Pond Association to also help with the cost. We discussed how the Conservation Budget is set and there is no specific line item for this. Bill will check with Steve White on another sign company and pricing. Probably go with 5 signs for now. We will have a separate meeting on June 22nd at the library to continue this discussion and come up with a final sign choice and locations. Holly was going to check with the Heritage Commission to see if they would also help with costs.
  • Reid – Camp Lincoln working with Forrest Bell.  Kingston Lake Grant pre application deadline June 1.  We have had a zoom meeting.   Costs shared with CL.  How much? Grant application has been submitted. Once accepted it would be a warrant article for next year. Cost is $2000 for the grant writing. We will share this cost. You pay interest as you go and then all is forgiven (not the interest). Publicity for this is important so the taxpayers know the money is forgiven.
  • Friday, May 6.  LPC rep brought a Loon nest to the lake.  Reid brought the pontoon boat to transport the nest to a site in the cove of the island.  Jim MacDougal helped with the placement.
  • June 29 speaker from NH Lakes for the Lake Smart program.  Ties in well with the letter from Rich St. Hilaire.   Do we want lawn signs?  Articles in paper, Muriel. Make Calls?  Refreshments? Ice cream? Bill, Sue, Betsey, Jim Edwards, Holly and I volunteered to call from the KLA List (Betsey emailed it out over the weekend) to remind folks of the upcoming meeting. Sue will check with What’s the Scoop on getting ice cream for the meeting.

  • Here is another FYI if you’re interested before our June 29th Meeting there is a webinar on the Lake Smart Program; check out this link: Explore Lakes with NH LAKES Webinar Series – NH LAKES
  • Mark Thom brought forward questions from the Ridgewood Association. They wanted to know why we clean the state park and also what type of floating devise Camp Lincoln’s uses for their rafts. There was a quite a discussion about why we volunteer to clean the State Park. We joined the Adopt a State Park program and we chose to help the State Park. To keep it a State Park and not to be sold, as the State was going to close down the State Park. Camp Lincoln uses blue Styrofoam for floating.
  • This is where you can find the RSA on the Adopt a State Park program: Section 216-A:3-l – Adopt-a-State Park Program Established. :: 2016 New Hampshire Revised Statutes :: US Codes and Statutes :: US Law :: Justia
